Why this matters
The special demo version includes an Ash-Greninja with Battle Bond as its listed ability, and can send it to Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon. Nintendo 3DS demos that have already been downloaded can still be played, but new demo downloads are no longer possible.

Steps
- Open the Special Demo Version already installed on your Nintendo 3DS. The Greninja is handed to you in the mailbox right at the start — there is nothing to earn first.
- Play on until the demo has saved for the first time and you have been given the Ride Pager, then speak to Professor Kukui inside the Pokémon Center and send your transferable rewards to the full game.
- Start Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon. The transfer message points you at the deliveryman — collect the gift from him in any Pokémon Center.
- Check what arrived: a level 36 Greninja with the Ability Battle Bond, OT Ash, ID 131017, and the moves Water Shuriken, Aerial Ace, Double Team and Night Slash. Battle Bond is the whole point of this rescue; its Nature is re-rolled on transfer, so don't use Nature to identify it.
- Launch Pokémon Bank on your Nintendo 3DS and move the Greninja out of the game's Boxes into one of your Bank Boxes.
- In Pokémon HOME on your Nintendo Switch, pick Move from the main menu — taking Pokémon out of Pokémon Bank needs a HOME Premium Plan.
- With a Nintendo 3DS at hand: choose Begin Move, Begin, Ready!, then Display to get a Moving Key. In Pokémon Bank pick "Move Pokémon to Pokémon HOME", select the Boxes you want, press Y, confirm with Yes, and enter the key — it expires after three minutes.
- Without a Nintendo 3DS: link the Nintendo Network ID you used for Pokémon Bank to the Nintendo Account behind your Pokémon HOME, then choose Move, No Nintendo 3DS, Check and Begin — this moves your whole Bank at once rather than Box by Box.
Warnings
- The demo can only send this Greninja into Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon. It cannot be sent into Pokémon Ultra Sun or Pokémon Ultra Moon — those are not valid transfer targets for this reward.
- Each demo reward can be sent to a given copy of Pokémon Sun or Moon only once — though the same demo can supply any number of different copies.
- New downloads of the Special Demo Version are no longer possible. This route only works if the demo is already installed on your Nintendo 3DS.
- Once a Pokémon has moved from Pokémon Bank into Pokémon HOME it can never go back to Pokémon Bank.

Why this matters
In Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, or Ultra Moon, the QR Scanner could be used to flag this Pokédex entry so it carries over as a shiny sighting when connecting to Pokémon HOME. This only registers the shiny Pokédex entry in Pokémon HOME — it does not give you an actual playable shiny specimen. This is independent of the task of transferring an actually-owned Ash-Greninja with Battle Bond out of Pokémon Bank.
